Mahindra Thar Earth : Buying a new car? Homegrown SUV major Mahindra and Mahindra Thar Earth Edition has arrived in the Indian market. The company has launched it at a starting price of Rs 15.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec LX hard top 4×4 variant will be available in both petrol and diesel options with manual and automatic transmission options.
The Mahindra Thar Special Edition is basically based on the ‘LX‘ but it costs about Rs 40,000 more than that. This SUV is limited to only 4×4 model and although no changes have been made in its mechanism, some cosmetic changes are definitely seen in this SUV.
Apart from this, as a major change in the exterior, Dun/Desert-inspired decals and graphics have been given on the doors and rear fender. Silver finish alloy wheels and square-shaped 3D ‘Earth Edition’ badging make it special.
Mahindra Thar Earth Edition Interior:
Mahindra Thar Earth Edition gets a similar paint scheme on the inside, which sees dual-tone paint with beige and black. An attempt has been made to make its cabin a little premium with leather upholstery. The company says that the new ‘THAR Earth‘ is based on a desert-inspired theme, and the SUV has line art decorated with the shape of dunes on the headrests.
Components like the steering wheel, cupholders, gear knob and Mahindra logo on the gear console have been given a dark chrome finish, which gives it a bit of a premium touch. Apart from this, most of the cabin features are the same as the regular LX variant.

Mahindra Thar Earth Edition Exterior:
Talking about the exterior of Mahindra Thar Earth Edition, it is finished in a special shade of matte paint which the company calls ‘Desert Fury‘, and also gets special ‘Earth Edition’ badges on the B-pillars and rear fenders. This badging differentiates this SUV from the rest. However, except for the colour combination, there is no difference in look and design.

Mahindra Thar Earth Edition Vehicle Identification Plate
Mahindra has said that each Thar Earth variant will get a Vehicle Identification Plate, which will be numbered starting from ‘1’. Although this is not a new scheme, it is often seen with limited edition models that companies provide such unique numbers to make it feel special. However, Mahindra has not given any information about whether the production of this SUV will be limited or not.

Mahindra Thar Earth Power and Performance:
As we mentioned, no changes have been made in its engine mechanism. Mahindra Thar Earth is available only in a 4×4 variant, with both petrol and diesel engine options. Its 2.0-litre petrol unit generates 152hp power and 300Nm torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox.
Whereas the diesel variant has a 2.2-litre diesel engine which generates power of 132hp and torque of 300Nm. It also has the option of a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox. This special edition of Thar is also available with a number of accessories including customized front and rear armrest, 7D floor mats and a comfort kit.
