In the elections of 2014 and 2019, Sukhbir Jaunapuria, a resident of Haryana, defeated Congress candidates Azharuddin and Namonarayan Meena by a margin of more than one lakh votes. This time, he’ll aim to win this seat in three consecutive elections.
Who is Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria?
Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria is a real estate businessman. On October 18, 1957, Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuri was born in Delhi, India. His father, Sohan Lal Jaunapuria, was a prominent member of the business sector. He finished his studies at Delhi University up to the second year of the B.Com programme.
He started his political career in Haryana, where from 2004 to 2009 he was an independent member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly representing the Sohna Vidhan Sabha Constituency. He defeated prominent members of the Congress Party and others, making his victory in Sohna noteworthy.
When Jaunapuria joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 and ran for the Lok Sabha from the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency in Rajasthan, his political career took a new direction. With a margin of 1,48,000 votes, he defeated former Indian cricket team captain and member of parliament Mohammad Azharuddin to win the election.

Since September 1, 2014, Sukhbir Jaunapuria has been a member of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare‘s Standing Committee on Water Resources Consultative Committee. When Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria gave his son-in-law a helicopter, it garnered a lot of media attention.

Considered close to Sachin Pilot, Harish Chandra Meena, a former DGP and Deoli Uniara MLA, has been fielded by the Congress for the Tonk Sawai Madhopur seat. In contrast, the BJP has put Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria, a resident of Haryana, forward for a third time.
