McLaren has officially taken the wraps off the new Artura Spider convertible supercar. Along with the drop-top variant, McLaren has also announced several powertrain upgrades that will come to both the Spider and Artura coupe models starting in mid-2024.
McLaren Artura Spider Brings Open-Top Thrills
The Artura Spider features a retractable hardtop that can open or close in just 11 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. McLaren engineered the roof out of lightweight carbon fiber to minimize weight; even with the folding top, the Artura Spider weighs only 62 kg more than the coupe at 1,559 kg total.
Retaining the Artura coupe’s distinctive silhouette and dihedral doors, the Spider gets several tweaks to its rear design. The rear quarter glass is removed and the flying buttresses now incorporate fixed carbon fiber roll hoops. Glass inserts in the buttresses improve rear visibility for the driver.
At the back, the engine heat vents relocate further rearward to accommodate the folding hardtop. Extra vents are also added to the redesigned rear deck.

McLaren Artura Spider Powertrain Upgrades
In addition to the new Spider, McLaren has developed some significant powertrain upgrades for the entire Artura range. Both the coupe and convertible will benefit from these enhancements starting in mid-2024.
The twin-turbo 3.0L V6 engine gets tuned to produce an extra 19.7 bhp, bringing total output to 690 bhp. The electric motor remains unchanged, so combined hybrid power rises to 720 bhp with 720 Nm torque.
The 8-speed automatic transmission gets recalibrated for 25% quicker shift times. McLaren also claims a 90% improvement in active suspension response for sharper handling.
Thanks to the extra power and sharper reflexes, the Artura Spider sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds. The 0-200 km/h dash takes only 8.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 330 km/h.
